Is Tilapia A Healthy Fish To Eat?
Almost all Tilapia produced and sold in the U.S., will be farm-raised. This is because Tilapia is in high demand from consumers and while wild Tilapia have been introduced in oceans all over the world, they mostly come from the oceans surrounding Africa.
For this reason, it’s hard to find wild-caught Tilapia and most of the fish for consumers in the U.S., will be farm-raised.
Any farm-raised fish are going to be less healthy and nutrient-deficient, especially in Omega 3s. This is because of how the fish are fed when raised and the dyes they're injected with, to make their color look more natural.
If you’re wanting Tilapia and farm-raised is your only option, you may want to eat another type of wild fish from the Atlantic and Alaska. They are healthier to consume.
