Active Release Technique (ART)
Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue, movement-based massage technique that treats problems involving muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. ART is most commonly used to treat conditions related to adhesions/scar tissue in overused muscles. These adhesions can be due to pulled muscles, small or large tears, stressful loads and not getting enough oxygen to the affected muscle.
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue, also known as adhesions, builds up and compresses tissues that need to move freely. Muscles become shorter and weaker, the motion of muscles and joints are altered, tension on tendons can cause tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped due to this compression. As a result, tissues suffer from decreased blood supply, pain, loss of strength and poor mobility. If a nerve is trapped, you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
A few conditions that can be better treated using ART:
* Headaches* TMJ problems* Back pain* Carpal tunnel syndrome* Shin splints* Shoulder pain* Sciatica* Plantar fasciitis
Disclaimer – Our office doesn’t claim to cure any condition using ART. Active Release Technique is another adjunctive therapy we use to help our patients get the desired results from the symptoms they present with and live a healthier life.
